MiSTer

Video: MiSTer Pi, a much cheaper alternative to the Terassic DE10-Nano for the MiSTer FPGA project.

If you buy the original Terassic DE10-Nano, that'll likely set you back about $235 plus shipping... and then you'll likely want the SDRAM addon, USB board, and maybe the Analog I/O board.  A traditional MiSTer FPGA setup will easily set one back around $400.  You can get a complete MiSTer Pi setup for around $180... although shipping from Hong Kong is likely more than we are used to ($31-$40).

Anyway, I picked up two of these systems last night but it'll be a while until they arrive.  The following video highlights the MiSTer Pi system mainly by pointing out the much lower cost while focusing on many of the popular FPGA cores that are part of the MiSTer FPGA project.  Enjoy!

I bought a MiSTercade board a while ago.  Only problem is that I don't have a JAMMA cabinet to use it with.  I have my eye on a Storm from AwesomeArcades based out of Idaho... but I haven't come up with the cash for it yet.  That doesn't have a CRD so things like the NES Zapper wouldn't work... but there are some alternative light guns that would work if I wanted that.  Anyhoo, here's Retro Ralph's take on the MiSTer.  Enjoy!

Video: MiSTer FPGA Sega Saturn devel core looking great

I need to give this one (the work-in-progress Sega Saturn core) a try but so far I haven't.  Looks pretty darn good.  I'm sure there is still a lot of work left but the progress made thus far looks very promising.  I've been subscribed to the developer's patreon (<a href="https://discord.com/channels/647909397477195803/806644464834969640/1047355308210671666">Srg320</a>) for well over a year and I hope he is making a reasonable living from all of the work he has put in.  He has made a number of impressive cores for the MiSTer FPGA.  Big thanks to Video Game Esoterica putting the video together.  He does good work too.  Enjoy!

Artemio Urbina talks to Martin Donlon (aka Wickerwaka) about the MiSTer FPGA, Irem M92 (and M72) Arcade hardware, how video is handled in arcade boards, how MDfourier was used to check audio by him for the core, how M.A.M.E. helps during development and much, much more.   Enjoy!
